So I recently went back and updated my writing projects page with everything from back to 2012.

The takeaway? What the fuck was I doing in 2014??? I published ONE 2,000 word story. Wtf?

Oh yeah, that’s when I wrote ~100,000 words of OG fiction. I guess that’s good.

ANYWAY. I’ve kind of decided that I’m probably not going to finish this story I wanted to send in for Strange New Worlds. I just haven’t pushed myself much with writing over the last couple of months. And honestly I’m kind of okay with that. I’m writing content for both my full time job and a freelance client now while still looking for higher paying marketing work, learning to code in my free time, and lately I’ve been selling a lot of memorabilia carpet from DragonCon so there’s cutting and processing and shipping involved in that -- it’s more work than you’d think, lol. I’m getting ready to launch a podcast on feminism and skepticism next week, and there’s a lot of prep involved in that, because I don’t know shit about audio, so I’ve sort of had to learn everything on the fly. I have a lot going on. I’m pretty busy. Something’s got to slip somewhere.

That being said, here’s the year end wrap-up --->

I guess the truth is, this is sort of the year that I started taking fanfiction seriously. In as much as I *take* it seriously -- but you know what I mean. I never really dedicated myself to producing a consistently growing body of work before this year and I feel a lot better for it. I definitely want to focus on putting out at least one new fic a month, even if it’s just a little <1k ficlet, going forward.

Thank you to everyone who read my fic this year, thank you to everyone who left feedback and kudos, and a HUGE thank you to my wonderful beta readers. I love you guys! <3333

So much writing lately like omg.

I finished my advent fic so I'm excited to share that later in the month. Still doing a couple edits, but I'll have it in your inbox by tomorrow, awarrington! <3 The thing wound up being almost 10,000 words long. When I originally started writing it I had planned on it being *maybe* 5k. Wth. Why am I incapable of writing shorts lately? Everything I start turns into at least novella length. Which would be fine, if I didn't have a million things to write for in the very near future. Deadlines piling on top of deadlines. I don't know why I do this to myself! T_T

Thanksgiving was good. My brother is being a little shit lately, so I guess I'm the "good child" again, lol. I honestly feel like my relationship with my parents has never been better, especially Mom. Things have always been rocky between us, but she's really chilled out the last couple of years, which I'm grateful for.

We ordered a catered dinner instead of cooking a big turkey and everything at home, which turned out surprisingly delicious. Their kitchen isn't the greatest, and it's a hassle every year just trying to get everything prepared without heating up the entire house (our ventilation is awful and it doesn't take much to heat up a little double wide trailer) so I think it was just a lot easier for her. And everything was yummy, so no complaints from me. We had plenty to eat.

Watched the Macy's parade and the dog show (a new tradition in our house, lol) and walked down to survey the repairs on the gaping chasm that used to be our road. See pic below:

They've since filled in the.. I hesitate even to call it a "hole." More like a GORGE. I'm expecting to see a herd of wildebeests descend into this thing at any moment followed by Simba clinging to one of those culverts in the middle for dear life.

Anyway, they filled it in with a lot of concrete and a lot of dirt, but who knows when the road will be opened again. It's still a mess. I had to drive about a half mile out of the way in order to get to the house when I arrived on Thursday.

But in all, it was a good visit and a nice little holiday. Now onward to Christmas. I'm fairly proud of myself because I've already completed most of my Christmas shopping and it's not even mid-month yet. Go me?

Fandom: Star Trek: TOS

Summary: Jim and Spock are lounging in bed when Jim notices Spock's kahs-wan mark for the first time. The Vulcan does not respond well to questions about it...

After coming across the above, apparently official art detailing all of Spock’s scars and physical characteristics, I now cannot get the idea of the first time Jim saw his kahs-wan mark out of my head.
Parts near the end of this read more like a headcanon rather than a fic proper, but it just seemed the most natural way to write it and so I did. You'll probably see what I mean when you get there, but I hope it doesn't distract from the narrative too much. Hope you like!

Thanks for reading! I'm going to start posting more of my fic here just so I have it archived somewhere other than KSA and Ao3. <3

At the risk of being annoying, I just have to share. I haven't been this happy or satisfied with life in a really really really long time.

I'm still not 100% happy with the full-time gig, but things have calmed down a lot since certain people started working in the field. I typically go into my office first thing in the morning, and just chill in here, do my work, and don't worry about what's going on in the rest of the building. No one bothers me, I get my work done, and I go home at 5 o'clock. I make a conscious decision to leave work at work, and go home to relax. In comparison with recent months, it's been pretty low stress.

Making matters better on the financial front (as well as others), I recently started working part-time freelance on a much more creative project that I really enjoy working with. Sorry to be super vague about it, but I have to be. Anyway, the extra money in my pocket is going help SO MUCH while I continue to search for a more lucrative and more satisfying full-time job... not to mention the boost to my resume. So I'm really thrilled about that.

I still have not written a full write-up about KiScon. I promise to get around to that in the next week or so. It was my first K/S convention, a HUGE departure from the everyday anime and pop culture cons I'm so used to attending, and much smaller in sheer numbers than I'm used to. I had so so so much fun and met so many amazing ladies. I love all of you and wish we could all hang out again immediately, like wow.

My "Celestial Bodies" necklaces were a HUGE hit, which honestly surprised the crap out of me. I wasn't expecting them to be very popular at all because they weren't K/S related... I mean, I figure most people attending a K/S art auction want... K/S.. art? Which naturally they did, but people just kept remarking on how much they loved my jewelry and lots of people asked about commissioning work later. I was so flattered!

Anyway, this isn't a KiScon writeup post, LOL. I'll get to that. But my trip to Seattle in general was amazing. I stayed with some friends for a few days after the con so I would have a chance to see the city a bit more. We did all the touristy things in downtown, including Pike Place Market and the Space Needle, but BY FAR the most amazing part was our day trip out to Mount Rainier.

I have dreamed of hiking there my entire life. I've seen all the beautiful nature photos worthy of being desktop wallpapers and calendars and the like... and I'm here to tell you that seeing that view in person is absolutely breathtaking.

I'm definitely going back. I'm definitely making more time to do Saint Helens as well, next time.

In other news, I may have bitten off more than I can chew, writing-wise. I signed up for K/S Advent, Old Married Spirk Challenge, T'hy'la Big Bang, the Strange New Worlds Anthology AND the 50th Anniversary K/S zine: Devotion. O______________o

...most of the time you were in Seattle? ...yes.

My entry for Devotion is done and submitted (and accepted, yay!!), but will need edits I'm sure. I've written about 2k of TBB which is due on... Dec 10th. Advent is due on Nov 28th (ya know... like a week and a half from now...) and... I have only just started writing. T___T

Haven't even STARTED SNW. It's due in Jan.

OMS Challenge is done and posted here: What Is Expected. THANK GOD.

But good lord I have so much writing to do.

Being happy feels good.

Well, okay. This is funny. My very first blogger platform at the age of... maybe 17??? 13 years ago? Yep, you guessed it, it was LiveJournal. And here we are again. It all comes full circle.

So, for the last few years I've done most of my social media/blogging and the like over at Tumblr, but I decided to come back to LJ and try it out again because apparently a good portion of the fandom community still lives here, and IDK I just really miss long-form, text-based blogging tbh. Tumblr is so visual, and everything is so fast and loose -- you post something and, like Twitter, if it isn't seen in the first hour after it's posted, it probably won't be seen. They're just very different platforms and meet very different needs. So when I feel like actually journaling, you can expect to find it here.

Consider this an experiment.
